KUWAIT: The Indonesian economic counselor and his wife escaped
unhurt Saturday when a drug addict opened fire at their car just
south of Kuwait City, official sources said.
The shooting had no political motive, the Kuwaiti interior
ministry said.
"Sudirmen Haseng (the counselor) was in his car with his wife
in front of a school... when someone in a car fired shots at
them," the Indonesian consul, Hassan Basri, told AFP.
"One bullet hit the front door handle and was deflected... Had
it got through, it might have hit the couple inside," he said.
Kuwait's interior ministry said 32-year-old Hussein al-Qallaf
was arrested and confessed to the shooting. A drug addict, Qallaf
was wanted on several charges. Last week, he fired shots at his
sister's car and fled, the ministry said. -- AFP
