Short on Civil Servants, Will Customs and Excise Open Recruitment? Here's Djaka Budi's Response

Director General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) Djaka Budi Utama has stressed that his directorate will not be recruiting employees in the near future, despite the Directorate General of Customs and Excise experiencing a shortage of human resources. Djaka admitted that DJBC is still waiting for the national recruitment process, or the recruitment of Civil Servant Candidates (CPNS), to hire state civil apparatus (ASN). “Yes, we are all waiting together, recruiting like the others, so not separately (just customs), but we will go along with the national system,” Djaka said when met at the House of Representatives (DPR RI) parliamentary complex on Monday (15/6/2026). “Yes, joining with the ASN,” he added. He also emphasised that his party would not act independently in carrying out this ASN recruitment. DJBC, he said, will continue to coordinate with the National Civil Service Agency (BKN). “Because we cannot detach ourselves from the prevailing national system,” he explained. Although unable to confirm ASN recruitment, Djaka revealed that recruitment will be opened for high school graduates according to DJBC’s needs. As is known, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has opened the option of recruiting Senior High School (SMA) graduates as new employees at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise. Purbaya explained that Customs and Excise requires more field personnel, not just technical staff. “Customs and excise needs field personnel, don’t just bring in technical staff, the technical ones who collect customs duties,” Purbaya said late last year (14/11/2025). At that time, Purbaya estimated that the Ministry of Finance would recruit as many as 300 high school graduates. “You’ve already seen our officers everywhere. Partly because we lack people, we will recruit 300 high school graduates from all over Indonesia. They will be recruited in their respective locations later,” he stated.
