The ‘Shopping in China’ trend has become a powerful new engine for global services trade, according to a think tank report released by Xinhua on Friday (26/6). The report, titled ‘Shopping in China: Sharing New Opportunities of Open Development’, was released by the Xinhua Institute, a think tank affiliated with Xinhua News Agency. In 2025, China’s tourism service exports surged 49.5 percent year-on-year to 393.98 billion yuan, making it the fastest-growing sector in services exports, according to the report. ‘Shopping in China’ directly drives the surge in China’s tourism service exports, and the comprehensive experience of international tourists in China not only optimises China’s trade structure but also injects strong momentum into the recovery of the global tourism services market, the report stated. This rapidly growing trend is also driving the synergistic development of related global service industries, including aviation, insurance, and finance, the report added.
