Shopping centers violate bylaw

JAKARTA: The city council urged the administration to take action against six companies that manage shopping centers here for failing to provide space for small-scale traders.

They are: PT Senayan Trikarya Sempana (Senayan Square in Central Jakarta), PT Maspion (shopping center and offices on Jl. Gunung Sahari No. 14, Central Jakarta), PT Contimas Utama Indonesia (Carrefour in Puri Indah Mall, West Jakarta, and in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta), PT Perwita Marga Sakti (shopping center on Jl. Prof. Dr. Satrio, Kuningan, South Jakarta) and PT Duta Pertiwi (ITC Mangga Dua, North Jakarta, ITC Cempaka Mas III and Cempaka Mas I in Central Jakarta) and PT Sumarecon Agung (Kelapa Gading Plaza), Antara reported.

The list, obtained by the Economic Office of the city administration, was made public by Dani Anwar, secretary of Commission B for Economic Affairs, on Saturday.

According to Gubernatorial Decree No.50/1999, Bylaw No.2/2002 on private markets, the management should provide space for small-scale traders.

The 2002 bylaw replaced the one issued in 1992, which allowed shopping center managements to provide funds in lieu of the space that was supposed to be allocated to small-scale traders. --JP
