TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Business electricity customers (offices, hotels, and shopping centers) are waiting for the new electricity tariff structure from the Government.

Minister of Trade Mari Elka Pangestu said that discussions were still going on between shopping centers administrators and the State Electricity Company (PLN).

“We have not yet decided anything,” she said yesterday (11/8).

However, she suggested that tariffs should be higher between 6pm and10pm.

Meanwhile, Head of Indonesian Hotels and Restaurants Association (PHRI) Yanti Sukamdani said that hotel administrators had been saving electricity optimally for the past ten years.

They turn off elevators and air conditioners in the late evening.

Yanti mentioned it would be difficult for hotels to reduce electricity usage between 5pm and 10pm as these are hotels’ busy hours.

“The Government needs to specify hotels as different to offices and manufacturers,” she said.

Yanti went on to say that hotels have been trying to reduce electricity usage since long before the government recommended electricity saving because 75 percent of hotels’ expenses come from electricity.

She recommended that the Government provide incentives for industrial sectors that save electricity.

“The Government does not have to spend any money but just issue a regulation about incentives,” said Yanti.
