Shoplifter gets three months

BOGOR (JP): The Bogor District Court sentenced a 20-year-old man to three months in jail yesterday for shoplifting in Matahari department store on Jl. Kapten Muslihat here on Dec. 5 last year.

The verdict was two months lighter than that demanded by prosecutor Sri Hartatie.

The defendant, Bakroni, was charged under Article 362 of the Criminal Code on stealing.

Judge Nafisah said during the reading of the verdict that the defendant received a lighter sentence because he was still young and it was expected he would reform.

Bakroni, according to the prosecutor, shoplifted while the train on which he was traveling made a stopover at Bogor Station.

"While waiting for the train to continue its journey, he entered the department store not far from the station," Sri said.

He stealthily tried on a pair of shoes and put his sandals into the shoe box.

But he was spotted by one of the store's security guards who immediately apprehended him and handed him over to the police. (24/hhr)
