East Ciputat Police Chief Kompol Bambang Askar Sodiq said the force had traced the location in question and conducted brief interrogations of several traders who often operate until late at night. ‘We have patrolled and sought information from several traders. They reported there is a ’pocong’, but it is cosplay buskers; the traders know that it is cosplay, so the pocong,’ Bambang told detikcom on Thursday, 21 May 2026.

One of the shopkeepers, Nur, confirmed the presence of cosplay pocong that had caused a stir. Nur also admitted that the cosplay pocong had previously shopped at his shop.

‘Yes, there were two people. They did not do anything, just bought drinks,’ Nur said in a video shared by the Police Chief.

Nur said the cosplay pocong buskers had stopped by the shop several times at night. But these pocong cosplayers did not disturb and simply rested at his shop.

‘They were just hanging around there (beside the shop). Resting there, yes (wearing the pocong costume). Just bought drinks, not doing anything,’ he explained.

‘They have been here three times; last night I forget, about three days ago,’ Nur added.

Similar testimony came from Sani, a trader in the Pertamina Complex. Sani knows that the ‘pocong’ causing a stir was a cosplay street performer.

‘I have seen street performers wearing pocong costumes around 2-4 people,’ Sani said.

Viral on social media. The issue of roaming ‘pocong’ in the Ciputat Timur area circulated in threads. Several netizens reported seeing the pocong appearances. Some reported sightings along Jalan Haji Gadung Raya, with one netizen claiming to have seen two to three ‘pocong’ sitting around. Others claimed to have seen a pocong near their boarding houses in Ciputat Timur, near the Pertamina Complex. The rumours spread rapidly, unsettling residents.

Police, after receiving information about the appearance of the ‘pocong’, moved to check the location. ‘We went down and spoke to several residents around the location; the pocong issue is not present,’ Bambang said when contacted by detikcom on Thursday, 21 May 2026.

Bambang confirmed there is no pocong or ghost in the area. The police’s investigation found that the ‘pocong’ was a street performer cosplaying.

‘So there is no pocong; what there is is a street performer cosplaying as a pocong,’ he said.
