ShopeePay App's QRIS Now Usable in China

ShopeePay app provides transaction convenience for Indonesian users travelling abroad. Users of the ShopeePay app can make payments at various merchants in China using QRIS in the app. “Starting 30 April 2026, ShopeePay app users can make payments at various merchants in China, including those in the Alipay partner network, simply by scanning the QRIS code through the app,” said President Director of ShopeePay Indonesia Eka Nilam, in a press release on Monday (4/5/2026). She explained that the service is accepted at various merchants in China, from retail and dining to transportation. This makes it easier for users to meet their daily needs while abroad. In addition to easing transactions for Indonesian users in China, Eka continued, this integration also opens opportunities for Chinese tourists to transact more conveniently in Indonesia. Because ShopeePay merchants can accept payments from Chinese tourists using payment methods connected to the Alipay system. “This step is part of ShopeePay app’s ongoing efforts to expand QRIS access across countries, after previously being available in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and South Korea, and now continuing to be developed to reach more destinations, including China,” Eka explained. This expansion, Eka said, is part of the ShopeePay app’s commitment to supporting users’ transaction needs. “As cross-border mobility increases, the need for practical and internationally usable payment solutions becomes increasingly relevant,” she stated. By becoming one of the QRIS cross-border system providers between Indonesia and China, the ShopeePay app aims to provide convenience for users to continue transacting practically and securely in one all-in-one app. The presence of ShopeePay QRIS in the cross-border network also strengthens the app’s position as an All-in-One Wallet, offering secure and practical transaction solutions for various needs, from transferring money to banks and e-wallets, purchasing digital products like credit and electricity tokens, to transportation payments via QRIS Tap. Regarding security aspects, she explained that the ShopeePay app is equipped with various features such as PIN, fingerprint, and facial recognition, as well as ShopeePay Plus verification that allows users to access additional features and higher transaction limits securely. In addition, Eka continued, the ShopeePay app also offers the ShopeePay Protection feature that provides additional protection against various digital transaction risks, from potential losses due to cyber attacks and hacking, to digital fraud such as phishing. In the future, she added, ShopeePay app will continue to support the development of cross-border digital payment ecosystems and expand service coverage to deliver increasingly practical transaction experiences, both domestically and internationally.
