Shopee Indonesia, together with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and BenihBaik.com, has carried out the planting of around two thousand mangrove seedlings on the northern coast of Jakarta to commemorate World Mangrove Day. Deputy Director of Government Relations at Shopee Indonesia, Balques Manisang, stated that the collaboration with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government through the Food Security, Marine Affairs, and Fisheries Agency, as well as BenihBaik.com, is hoped to contribute to the preservation of the mangrove ecosystem and provide sustainable benefits for current and future generations. The seedling planting activity is a tangible manifestation of the Shopee Peduli: Tanam Hutan Indonesia programme, which invites the public to contribute to mangrove ecosystem preservation through the interactive Shopee Tanam game and the Donation feature on the Shopee application. The programme, which ran from 5 June to 20 July 2026, attracted the attention of more than 50,000 Shopee users who participated in the game and made donations. In over 30 days, users collected 100,000 virtual trees called ‘Pohon Shopee Peduli’ within the game, which allows users to experience the process of sowing seeds, watering, and caring for seedlings daily until they are ready to be harvested and converted into real mangrove seedlings. Balques Manisang said the planting activity represents Shopee’s commitment to preserving Indonesia’s natural environment by involving user participation through technology. She expressed appreciation for the tens of thousands of users who took part, noting that technology can bridge the gap to enable real environmental action. Participation came not only from Jakarta residents but also from users in areas such as Surabaya, Medan, Denpasar, Balikpapan, Makassar, and Samarinda, demonstrating that technology makes environmental action accessible to anyone, anywhere. Shopee collaborated with BenihBaik.com to turn digital participation into real conservation efforts. As a social programme platform experienced in running Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives, BenihBaik.com supported the conversion of virtual trees into mangrove seedlings planted in the Ecomarine Muara Angke area, North Jakarta. Founder and CEO of BenihBaik.com, Andy F. Noya, said the mangrove ecosystem serves as an effective natural fortress to dampen waves and prevent seawater from reaching the land, helping to resist abrasion and erosion. He added that managing the mangrove ecosystem requires collaboration from various parties, and BenihBaik.com is pleased to work with Shopee and the Jakarta Provincial Government to protect the ecosystem and bring a positive impact to the surrounding community. Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Rano Karno, conveyed the importance of synergy between the government, various stakeholders, and public participation in environmental conservation efforts, including mangrove planting. He noted that together with government agencies, businesses, educational institutions, foundations, regional-owned enterprises, communities, the younger generation, and the public, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government simultaneously planted 24,310 mangrove seedlings across five main locations in the Jakarta area.
