Shopee and the Ministry of Creative Economy deliver digital economy impact for UMKM actors
Jakarta — Shopee Indonesia is implementing the Emak-Emak Matic and Genmatic programmes in partnership with the Ministry of Creative Economy, delivering a significant impact on the income of UMKM actors through digital economy training and literacy.
Balques Manisang, Deputy Director of Government Relations at Shopee Indonesia, said the collaboration with the government aims to provide income opportunities for housewives and business operators to help raise the economy and livelihoods.
“This can be described as a pilot project, which, alhamdulillah, has immediately shown significant impact, because today we are looking at what the community needs, and, with precise project targets, we can determine who requires education or digital training from Emak-Emak Matic and Genmatic,” Balques said at the Emak-Emak Matic and Genmatic Digitalisation Training Progress Report event in Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Balques said the Emak-Emak Matic and Genmatic training has produced improved business performance, from Shopee sellers experiencing sales increases of up to three times, Shopee Food orders increasing by an average of 1.8 times, and affiliates seeing commissions rise as much as eight times.
“This means there is a significant impact on earnings; at least this is the tangible result produced by the legacy of Emak-Emak Matic and Genmatic. It also shows that with proper backing and strong commitment, digital knowledge can serve as a catalyst to unlock new economic opportunities for UMKM, merchants and affiliates,” Balques said.
Digital literacy training is also conducted through Kampus UMKM Shopee, which provides training modules tailored to the needs of UMKM and is trained by BNSP-certified instructors.
Shopee notes that in the last five years digital literacy in Indonesia has grown significantly, reaching 17.8 percent, a rise not detached from advances in digital technology requiring people from all walks of life to adapt to digital technology.
Balques said Shopee will continue to provide mentoring and incentives for sellers, Shopee Food merchants and affiliates who earn more, such as support for greater exposure on social media, in advertising, or on the local shopping platform Shopee.
