Jakarta (ANTARA) - The e-commerce platform Shopee is strengthening intellectual property (IP) protection for local authors by accelerating the handling of pirated book reports through the Brand IP Portal feature, where all verified violation reports are followed up within three working days. Head of Corporate Affairs at Shopee Indonesia, Satrya Pinandita, stated that this effort is part of the company’s commitment to supporting and protecting the works of local authors amid the rising transactions of books in the digital space. “We are bringing back the Local Authors Festival to continue promoting, supporting, and protecting the intellectual property of local authors,” said Satrya in a statement in Jakarta on Friday. In addition to strengthening the protection system, Shopee is also relaunching the 2026 Local Authors Festival campaign, running from 5 to 24 May 2026 ahead of National Book Day on 17 May, in collaboration with the Ministry of Creative Economy. Through this campaign, users can obtain various promotions for purchasing local books, including discounts of up to 50 percent as well as additional discount vouchers worth up to Rp20,000. Shopee states that efforts to protect authors’ works are carried out through daily checks of book products sold, both manually and automatically, as well as the imposition of sanctions on sellers proven to violate policies, ranging from product takedowns to account deletions. The company also provides a reporting feature for users to report suspected pirated books via the reporting menu on the product page. Shopee adds that the Brand IP Portal allows copyright holders to register their works, report suspected violations, and monitor the status of reports on products suspected of being pirated. Through a combination of literacy campaigns and strengthened copyright protection, Shopee hopes that the ecosystem of the local book industry can grow in a healthier and more sustainable manner in the digital era. The 2026 Local Authors Festival can be accessed via the Shopee app.
