Shop owner dies in market fire

PEKANBARU, Riau: A shop owner died when fire gutted Sail market, one of the city's six busy shopping centers, yesterday morning, Antara reported.

Forty stalls burned down in the fire that started around 3 a.m. Fire brigades could only watch helplessly because it turned out that the market did not have any hydrants.

The fire died down in the rain that started shortly afterward. Police are investigating the causes of the fire. (swe)
