Shooting victim's family meets Mulyono

JAKARTA (JP): The family of 31-year-old Yudianto, the man wrongfully shot to death by West Jakarta Police mobile detectives, demanded that city police not only detain and question the officer who pulled the trigger, but the entire West Jakarta mobile detectives unit.

"I have already assured Yudianto's family, that we are looking into this case thoroughly ... the Police have already admitted their mistake, and apologized profusely for it," City Police Chief Insp. Gen. Mulyono Sulaiman told reporters, after a meeting with Yudianto's family at city police headquarters.

Yudianto's brother Subhan Gatot, told reporters that Mulyono had already been "very kind" to Yudianto's family.

"He seems to be doing all he can, and is very remorseful. We have told him not to only concentrate on what the shooter -- the policeman who shot my brother -- had to tell police. Police should reinvestigate the crime scene," Subhan told reporters.

As reported earlier, a court-martial is awaiting Brig. Pambudi, an officer of the West Jakarta Police SWAT team, who wrongfully shot Yudianto to death, on Jl. Raya Semanan in Kalideres, West Jakarta, on Feb. 28.

City police spokesman Sr. Comr. Anton Bahrul Alam earlier said that an internal affairs investigation of the shooting had concluded that Brig. Pambudi, had wrongfully shot Cengkareng resident Yudianto, in the back of the head.

Anton, however, failed to answer why Yudianto was shot in the head, instead of the leg, as police procedure dictates, and why his body was badly bruised and beaten at the time of his death. Witnesses said that prior to Yudianto's body being driven to the National Police Kramat Jati Hospital following the shooting, there were no bruises on his body.

The spokesman identified suspected bank robber Ashari, 32, who was arrested before the incident, as the person who allegedly pointed out Yudianto as a fellow robber to the police, which ultimately led to the fatal shooting. (ylt)
