Shooting probe continues
JAKARTA (JP): Police are still questioning the serviceman
believed to own the pistol used by the suspect in Saturday's
fatal shooting of an executive.
"We don't yet know why the serviceman, a member of an unit
outside Jakarta, lent the gun to the suspect to shoot his
colleague," City Police Chief Maj. Gen. Dibyo Widodo said
yesterday.
The pistol is a Colt 38.
The suspect, identified as Erfiandy Taufik, 28, is being
detained by police for shooting Lukman Ilyas, 58, a finance
manager at garment company PT Inter Mesa Industri. The shooting
took place in the victim's car while they were driving along Jl.
Suprapto in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, on Saturday
afternoon.
Knowing he was being hunted by hundreds of police detectives,
Erfiandy gave himself up at a nearby police station seven hours
after the killing, Dibyo said.
"Based on our preliminary investigation, the motive is still a
girlfriend," the chief said. (bsr)
