Shooting case trial begins

JAKARTA (JP): The Central Jakarta District Court has begun the
trial of Priyo Pujo Prabowo who stands accused of shooting at a
five-star hotel and a bank building located in Central Jakarta
last year.

In his indictment Prosecutor Esther Datu Rante charged the
suspect Thursday with illegally possessing a long-barrel riffle
and later using it to fire shots at Shangri-La Hotel and the Bank
Bumi Daya building on Oct. 29.

The prosecutor said Priyo, who was arrested along with another
suspect on Nov. 29, stole the Winchester gun, registration number
334576 A, from the house of Hengky Setiawan on Jl. Ampera in
Cirebon, West Java.

Esther said Priyo, as the prime suspect of the shooting, fired
several shots at rooms number 1128 and 827 of the hotel with the
aim of disrupting the wedding reception of actor Ongky Alexander
Harianto and corporate executive Paula Ayustina Saroinsong being
held at the hotel.

The shots broke windows of the hotel's rooms, inflicting a
loss of Rp 400,000.

It is not known why the suspect wanted to disrupt the
reception.

Security measures at the hotel were tightened as a result of
the incident, as well as at the company owned by Ongky and Paula
at the bank headquarters.

The trial was adjourned until today. (bas)
