Shooting at US Gala Dinner, Trump Finally Speaks Out
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - US President Donald Trump gave his response regarding the shooting incident at a media gala event in Washington on Saturday night (25/4). According to him, this shooting is not the first time it has happened.
“In Butler, Pennsylvania, less than two years ago, you all know the story, and in Palm Beach, Florida, a few months after that, we almost succeeded, really,” said Trump, quoted from CNN International, Sunday (26/4/2026).
“Nevertheless, everyone in that room… there was so much love and unity,” he added.
It is known that shots were fired while Donald Trump was attending the media gala event in Washington on Saturday night (25/4/2026). As a result, the perpetrator was arrested in the inspection area right outside the hotel’s multipurpose room where hundreds of guests gathered.
The Secret Service confirmed that one suspect has been detained, and added that the shooting incident occurred near the main security checkpoint area.
A tactical team with drawn weapons took positions on the stage where Trump was sitting during the dinner before being evacuated. Police flooded the Washington Hilton Hotel and helicopters circled overhead.
Trump said that he, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President JD Vance were all quickly escorted off the podium after shots were heard.
Trump also described the incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner as a quite traumatic experience for First Lady Melania Trump.
“A lot of things happened there very quickly. But once again, the response time was truly outstanding,” he said.
