BANGKOK (AFP): A Thai marksman says he will be haunted for the
rest of his life by his failed dope test at last month's
Southeast Asian Games.
Somboon Vongveeranonchai had to hand over his gold and bronze
medals to the Skeet and Trap Shooting Association of Thailand,
along with a 50,000-baht (US$1,270) bonus, after testing positive
for a banned substance.
"The organizers are right in taking the medals from me,"
Somboon was quoted as saying by the Nation daily.
"I did take a traditional herbal medicine that contained
cannabis, but I didn't do it intentionally," he said. "I never
thought it would snowball into such a major issue. I apologize to
everyone. It is a nightmare that will haunt me for as long as I
live."
