Two orphaned children in Pekanbaru, Riau became victims of armed robbery shortly after returning home from a mosque where they had received alms for Eid necessities.

The incident occurred on Jalan Pandu, Bukitraya District, Pekanbaru, on Monday, 16 March 2026, at approximately 10:30 WIB. The perpetrator’s actions were captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV).

In the recorded footage, the two siblings can be seen walking home after receiving their alms. However, midway through their journey, they were approached by a man riding a motorcycle.

The perpetrator initially feigned asking for directions from one of the victims, an eight-year-old child. Moments later, the suspect directly snatched an envelope containing money from the child’s hand and fled the scene.

As a result of the incident, approximately 1.5 million rupiah in alms that was intended for Eid expenses was stolen.

Muhammad Zamhur, Head of Criminal Investigation at Bukitraya Police Station, confirmed the incident and stated that his unit is handling the case. “The victims are orphaned children, and the envelope taken was alms they had just received from the mosque,” said Iptu Zamhur.

Police have confirmed they are pursuing the armed robbery perpetrator who was captured on CCTV at the scene. “The perpetrator’s identity has been identified and is currently under pursuit,” he stated.
