Shocking Fact! Indonesia Apparently 'Dominated' by Toddlers

Jakarta - Indonesia’s population structure has entered a new chapter. Generation Alpha has officially become the largest group in the country.

The results of the 2025 Intercensal Population Survey by Statistics Indonesia (BPS) show that Indonesia’s population is now dominated by children aged 0-4 years, commonly known as toddlers or popularly called ‘bocil’ (bocah di bawah lima tahun).

Using 2025 as the reference year, the 0-4 age group generally consists of children born between 2021 and 2025. However, if the census is conducted in the middle or towards the end of 2025, some children born in late 2020 will still be four years old and thus included in this cohort. Consequently, the 0-4 age group in 2025 is still dominated by Generation Alpha, whilst babies born throughout 2025 will form the first cohort of Generation Beta, making this age group a transitional period between the two generations.

When viewed by sex, the largest population segment is boys aged 0-4 years. Conversely, the smallest population group in Indonesia is those aged 75 years and above.
