Shocking Discovery: Infant's Body Found in Sumedang, Suspected Dog Attack
The Conggeang Police Sector, Sumedang Resort Police, West Java, is investigating the discovery of a baby boy’s body in Ungkal Village, Conggeang District, which is suspected to have sustained injuries from dog bites.
The Chief of Conggeang Police, AKP Suratman, stated in Sumedang on Sunday that the infant was found missing his arm and left leg, while the face and right ankle showed wounds suspected to be caused by dog bites.
“The investigation is ongoing; we do not yet know the exact cause as it is still being looked into. The condition of the body shows facial damage, and the left arm and leg bear marks of dog bites,” he said.
He added that the police are still working to identify the infant, determine the cause of death, and understand how the baby, estimated to be only one to two days old, came to be at the location.
He further explained that the infant’s body was found on Saturday, 29 August, at approximately 7:30 PM WIB in the yard of an abandoned house in Sukaluyu Hamlet, after being dragged by a dog.
A witness and the owner of the dog, Rohimat Nur Fadilah, said he initially thought the object brought by his pet was the carcass of a young goat.
“It was brought by the dog; I saw it and thought it was a kid (young goat). It turned out to be a baby. I saw that there was no arm,” said Rohimat.
He mentioned that after confirming the object was an infant, Rohimat contacted relatives and local residents and reported the discovery to the police.
Personnel from the Conggeang Police Sector, along with the Inafis Team from the Sumedang Resort Police Criminal Investigation Unit and officers from the Conggeang Community Health Centre, attended the scene to conduct an inspection.
Officers performed a crime scene investigation, interviewed several witnesses, and searched the area behind the residential area, which is a forested zone suspected to be the direction from which the dog dragged the infant.
Police also stated that they are currently investigating the possibility that the infant was intentionally abandoned and have requested that any members of the public who find any parts of the infant’s body near the location report it to the police immediately.
The infant’s body has been evacuated via ambulance to the Umar Wirahadikusumah Sumedang Regional Hospital for examination and further investigation purposes.
