Jakarta – The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has thwarted a cross-provincial drug-smuggling operation involving 29 kilograms of methamphetamine linked to an Aceh–Bogor network. What is surprising is that an active-duty Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) member was caught alongside two civilians in a luxury car in Bogor, West Java. The discovery occurred during BNN’s Saber Bersinar operation in the early hours of Tuesday, 19 May 2026. Acting Deputy for Eradication at BNN, Brigadier General Roy Siahaan, said the operation began from suspicious movements of a white Mitsubishi Pajero being monitored around 04:00 local time. The car was stopped and searched in Bogor. ‘There were three people in the car: two civilians and one active-duty TNI member,’ he said. During the search, officers found three people in the vehicle, including an active TNI soldier. BNN confirms the TNI member was not merely a passenger but allegedly directly involved in the cross-provincial drug trafficking network. ‘The person is indeed a TNI member. His involvement is that he was directly inside the Pajero. Therefore we conclude that he is a trafficker,’ he said. ‘This means he knew the drugs were stored there. So it is not a question of whether he was a user or not, because we have already confirmed that he is a trafficker, carrying the drugs from Aceh, via South Sumatra, then to Belapori up to Bogor. We managed to arrest him in Bogor,’ he added. From inside the vehicle, officers found 29 kilograms of methamphetamine packed in Chinese tea bags and concealed in the back compartment of the car. BNN suspects the contraband was destined for distribution in the Jabodetabek area (Greater Jakarta). The three suspects have since been detained for further investigation. BNN also said it has coordinated with the Indonesian Military Police (TNI MP) regarding legal proceedings for the soldier in question. In addition to the Bogor arrest, BNN noted that 31 suspects were arrested across Saber Bersinar operations in various regions of Indonesia.
