Ship Undergoing Repairs Catches Fire at Muara Baru Dock, North Jakarta

A ship undergoing repairs at the Muara Baru Dock on Jalan Tuna Raya, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, was engulfed in flames on Wednesday evening. “We deployed five fire engines and 25 personnel to extinguish the fire,” said Gatot Sulaeman, Head of Operations for the North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and Rescue Sub-Department, in Jakarta. He stated that residents reported the fire at 7.58 pm Western Indonesian Time, and officers immediately proceeded to the location to conduct firefighting operations. “The object on fire is a ship, and the extinguishing process is still ongoing,” he said. Previously, a fire destroyed three ships docked at the Muara Angke Dock in Penjaringan District, North Jakarta, on Sunday. The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Sunda Kelapa Port Police is conducting an investigation while waiting for the ship’s condition to be safe enough for a crime scene investigation. “We are still investigating,” said AKP Ery Suroto, Head of Criminal Investigation at the Sunda Kelapa Port Police, in Jakarta.
