Ship Passengers from Tanjung Priok Port Rise 40 Per Cent Ahead of Mudik
Jakarta – PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (PELNI) has recorded an increase in ship passengers from Tanjung Priok Port of approximately 40 per cent compared to normal days.
PELNI Chief Executive Officer Tri Andayani stated that the increase is evident in the vessel departure activities operated during the 2026 Lebaran transport period.
“Today we are conducting one of the vessel departures we operate, namely KM Dobonsolo,” said Tri Andayani in Jakarta on Friday (13 March 2026).
“For departures from Tanjung Priok alone, there has already been an increase compared to regular vessel operations, approximately 40 per cent of the usual passenger numbers,” she continued.
She predicted that the peak period for sea travel during mudik would occur on 18 March 2026.
“We predict the peak period for sea travel during mudik will occur on 18 March 2026, and during that period, the number of passengers departing will certainly be even higher,” she said.
For this year’s Lebaran transport, PELNI is operating 55 passenger vessels to serve various routes across Indonesia. The fleet comprises 25 large passenger vessels owned by PELNI and 30 pioneer vessels owned by the Ministry of Transportation, which are operated by PELNI.
Tri explained that PELNI’s large passenger vessels have a capacity of between 500 and 3,000 passengers. The pioneer vessels, meanwhile, have a capacity of approximately 250 to 500 passengers.
With this fleet size, PELNI is able to transport approximately 58,700 passengers in a single departure.
“For the entire 2026 Lebaran transport period, the total number of tickets we have prepared reaches approximately 766,000 tickets,” said Tri.
This includes adjusting routes for 21 passenger vessels.
“We have rerouted 21 passenger vessels. The strategy includes among other things adding routes or altering vessel routes,” she said.
