Shift from Pertamax to Pertalite Consumption in East Java Reaches 10 Percent

On average, there is a shift in consumption from Pertamax to Pertalite of approximately 7–10 per cent in the East Java region.

Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA) - Pertamina Patra Niaga has recorded a shift in public consumption from Pertamax fuel to Pertalite of around 7 to 10 per cent in East Java.

“On average, in the East Java region, there is a shift in consumption from Pertamax to Pertalite of about 7–10 per cent,” said Ahad Rahedi, Area Manager of Communication, Relations, and CSR for Pertamina Patra Niaga East Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara (Jatimbalinus), during a media briefing in Surabaya on Wednesday.

Ahad noted that the shift from Pertamax to Pertalite began occurring following the recent price increases for Pertamax and Pertamina Dex.

This shift in consumption, he continued, is occurring mostly in urban areas of East Java characterised by high vehicle density.

Nevertheless, he ensured that Pertamina has anticipated this through various projections regarding changes in public consumption patterns.

He explained that Pertamina has developed projections and anticipatory measures to be presented to each region and local government as material for consideration in calculating quota requirements until the end of 2026.

Regarding efforts to increase the quota for subsidised fuel, Ahad emphasised that such steps are not within Pertamina’s authority but rather that of the central government.

He stressed that Pertamina only carries out the mandate from the government regarding the allocation of subsidised fuel quotas.

So far, the quota set by the government for Biosolar fuel is 2.47 million kilolitres (KL), while Pertalite is set at 3.96 million KL until the end of the year for East Java.

“We have anticipated this. However, the quota is part of a government mandate, so the decision regarding the amount of quota that can be distributed in each region remains in the hands of the central government,” said Ahad.
