Shift from Pertamax to Pertalite Consumption in East Java Reaches 10 Percent

Pertamina Patra Niaga has recorded a shift in public consumption from Pertamax to Pertalite fuel of around 7 to 10 percent in East Java. Area Manager Communication, Relations and CSR for Pertamina Patra Niaga Jatimbalinus, Ahad Rahedi, stated during a media briefing in Surabaya on Wednesday that the average shift across the East Java region is between 7 and 10 percent. He noted that the transition began following the recent price increases for Pertamax and Pertamina Dex. The shift in consumption, he added, is predominantly occurring in urban areas of East Java characterised by high vehicle density. Despite this, he assured that Pertamina has anticipated the change through various projections of public consumption patterns. He explained that Pertamina has prepared projections and anticipatory measures to be communicated to each region and local government as material for consideration in calculating quota requirements until the end of 2026. Regarding efforts to increase the subsidised fuel quota, Ahad stressed that such authority does not lie with Pertamina but with the central government. He emphasised that Pertamina is merely carrying out the government’s assignment regarding the allocation of subsidised fuel quotas. To date, the government has set a quota of 2.47 million kilolitres for subsidised diesel and 3.96 million kilolitres for Pertalite in East Java until the end of the year. ‘We have anticipated this. However, the quota is part of the government’s assignment, so the decision regarding the amount of quota that can be distributed in each region remains in the hands of the central government,’ Ahad said.
