Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan's Private Department Invests in MidOcean Energy and Forms Strategic Partnership with EIG
The Private Department of Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan has committed to a $1.13 billion investment in MidOcean Energy, a liquefied natural gas (LNG) company founded and managed by EIG. In conjunction with the investment, the Department and EIG have formed a strategic partnership focused on raising capital, identifying investment opportunities, and developing institutional investment prospects across the UAE and select regional markets. The investment marks the Department’s entry into the global LNG sector and signals the start of a broader strategic relationship with EIG, a global energy and infrastructure investment firm. Through this partnership, the parties intend to collaborate on future investment opportunities in the energy and related infrastructure sectors. The investment further strengthens MidOcean’s high-quality institutional shareholder base and reflects continued confidence in the company’s strategy to build a diversified, resilient, and sustainable global LNG platform. MidOcean has assembled a portfolio of high-quality LNG assets in key global markets, including Canada, Australia, and Latin America, and seeks to continue expanding its global reach through a disciplined, value-oriented investment approach. R. Blair Thomas, Chairman of MidOcean and CEO of EIG, said: ‘We are pleased to enter into this strategic partnership with the Private Department. This partnership combines EIG’s expertise in global energy investment with the Department’s regional reach, institutional relationships, and long-term investment perspective. We believe this partnership will create a powerful platform for capital raising and investment across the region.’ De la Rey Venter, CEO of MidOcean, said: ‘This investment from the Private Department supports our continued growth and strategy execution across a diversified global LNG portfolio. We value their strong support for MidOcean’s strategy and look forward to working together to capitalise on further opportunities in the increasingly important global LNG market.’ Matar Hamdan Al Ameri, Executive Managing Director of the Private Department of Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, said: ‘This investment represents a significant milestone in our strategy to build long-term exposure to high-quality global infrastructure and energy assets and to create opportunities for regional investors to participate alongside leading institutional partners. MidOcean provides access to a critical component of the global energy system through its diversified LNG platform, while our strategic partnership with EIG creates a foundation for future collaboration and investment opportunities across the region.’
