Shayne Pattynama Responds to Indonesian National Team Omission Ahead of 2026 FIFA Series
Shayne Pattynama has commented on the Indonesian national team’s preparations for the FIFA Series 2026 taking place later this month.
At the unveiling of the Indonesian national team’s new Kelme jersey on Thursday 12 March 2026, Pattynama highlighted his absence from the Garuda squad.
The Persija Jakarta player revealed his disappointment at having to serve a match suspension and being unable to represent the Indonesian national team in the near term.
The suspension was imposed during the fourth round of World Cup 2026 qualifying when the Indonesian national team lost 0-1 to Iraq in their final match.
“I am clearly very disappointed because I cannot play due to the match suspension,” Pattynama said in an interview with media. “And there were many emotions involved in the fourth round that made me say some things to the referee. And yes, that is something I cannot change, you know, I cannot turn back time.”
Pattynama stated that he remained enthusiastic about representing the Indonesian national team following this jersey launch.
Nevertheless, he could not conceal his disappointment at being unable to perform in front of new coach John Herdman.
“I am very enthusiastic for the coming year and the potential for future years,” he said. “But I am disappointed because right now I cannot participate, when this could have been an opportunity to demonstrate my abilities to the new coach.”
“I will continue to support and watch the match at the GBK of course. And yes, my expectations for this match—I think everyone will be very hungry and motivated,” he added.
Furthermore, he predicted that Indonesian national team players would share the same enthusiasm whilst representing the red and white to prove their quality in front of the new coach.
“Because you want to show yourself to the new coach, there is a kind of new energy about it.”
