The leadership of the Great Indonesian Christian Movement (Gekira) distributed basic food provisions to communities at NT Tower Pulomas, Rawasari, Semper and Pesanggrahan, Jakarta on Saturday, 14 March 2026. This activity formed part of efforts to strengthen social solidarity and reinforce the spirit of tolerance amongst followers of different faiths ahead of Eid al-Fitr.

Nikson Silalahi, Chairman of Gekira’s Central Board, stated that the activity represented a concrete expression of Gekira’s care and social solidarity towards communities undertaking the Ramadan fast.

“Ramadan is an excellent opportunity to reinforce the spirit of togetherness. We want to reach out to communities through the distribution of basic provisions as a manifestation of sharing love and compassion with our Muslim brothers and sisters who are observing the Ramadan fast,” said Nikson.

In alignment with Nikson’s remarks, the Deputy Chairman of Gekira’s Central Board for Social, Cultural and Environmental Affairs stated that the activity also formed part of efforts to build a national life founded on values of tolerance and brotherhood.

He added that this action also aligned with President Prabowo Subianto’s message encouraging all national elements, including party cadres, to actively engage with communities and strengthen the spirit of togetherness.

“Amidst Indonesia’s diversity, this spirit of sharing becomes a bridge that strengthens unity. This is what President Prabowo consistently emphasises at every opportunity, encouraging all cadres to practise the principles enshrined in Pancasila, particularly the values of unity and humanity,” he said.

“We clearly understand President Prabowo’s message for cadres to continue engaging with communities, not merely speaking about unity but also practising it in daily life,” Yeremias added.

He assessed that simple social movements that address community needs can be an effective way to foster warmth in community life.

“We want to be part of a social movement that strengthens the sense of brotherhood as fellow citizens. When communities feel our presence, that is where the value of unity truly comes alive,” he said.

According to him, the distribution of basic provisions addresses the needs of the most vulnerable communities. He stated that social assistance activities would continue as part of Gekira’s commitment to serving communities.

“We see directly that as Eid approaches, community needs increase. For this reason, Gekira endeavours to serve through the distribution of basic provisions as an expression of care and social solidarity,” said Melki.

He added that the activity was expected to strengthen the spirit of togetherness amongst communities.

“Our hope is simple—that what we do today will strengthen the sense of brotherhood and tolerance amongst communities,” he said.
