Shariah-based stocks now dominate Indonesia’s capital market. The Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) notes that more than half of market capitalisation comes from stocks classified as Shariah. Acting BEI President Director Jeffrey Hendrik said around 70% of the 956 BEI-listed shares are in the Shariah category. ‘We should be proud because today the growth of Indonesia’s Islamic capital market has become so large,’ Jeffrey said at the Sharia Investment Week 2026 at the BEI Building, on Thursday (21 May 2026). According to Jeffrey, the development of Indonesia’s Shariah capital market is also supported by regulations and fatwas that are becoming more comprehensive from the National Sharia Council (DSN) of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), including those related to guarantee mechanisms. He stressed that the Shariah capital market is inclusive and not only aimed at investors with a particular belief. He noted that Shariah-based investment is now also part of a lifestyle that prioritises prudence and better risk management. ‘Not only to achieve investments that are more blessed, but also to invest with better risk management,’ Jeffrey said.
