REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The sharia life insurance industry is experiencing double-digit growth, in line with Prudential Shariah’s expansion throughout 2025. This positions Prudential Shariah as the industry leader in sharia life insurance, supported by an Annualized Premium Equivalent (APE) of around Rp 1 trillion and a market share of approximately 22 percent.

Throughout 2025, the sharia life insurance industry recorded a total Annualized Premium Equivalent (APE) of Rp 4.7 trillion, marking 13 percent growth. The growth in sharia life insurance is also evident from the total number of insured participants, which reached 24.5 million in the same year.

Interest among Indonesians in sharia finance is also growing rapidly, with the sharia financial literacy rate surging from 9 percent in 2023 to 43 percent in 2025. However, this literacy surge has not yet been fully matched by sharia insurance penetration, which remains below 1 percent. With more than 65 million Indonesian households and millions among them still not optimally protected, this situation opens up substantial growth potential and opportunities for the sharia life insurance industry.

“Our position as market leader reflects the growing trust from the public. Our focus is to ensure this growth remains relevant to market needs, expanding access to protection while maintaining service quality,” said Iskandar Ezzahuddin, President Director of Prudential Shariah, in a statement on Thursday (30/4/2026).

Looking ahead, Prudential Shariah is committed to continuing its contributions to the overall growth of Indonesia’s sharia insurance industry. Together with the government and all stakeholders, Prudential Shariah will actively promote sharia insurance literacy and inclusion—building broader understanding in society, delivering simple, relevant, and high-quality sharia protection solutions, and strengthening distribution networks to make protection more accessible to all segments of society. Ultimately, Prudential Shariah’s mission is to be a trusted partner for Indonesian families, always upholding the principle of ta’awun—mutual protection and support.
