Gold investment can now be accessed through the capital market without having to buy physical gold in gram denominations. The presence of a gold Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) provides an alternative for the public to gain exposure to gold through an instrument traded on the exchange.

One such product is the Sharia Mutual Fund Premier ETF Gold Sharia Indonesia (XGLD), managed by PT Indo Premier Investment Management (IPIM). XGLD can be purchased starting from one participation unit, equivalent to 0.1 milligrams of gold. IPIM Director Noviono Darmosusilo said that access with such a very small value could change the habit of people who have been waiting until they have sufficient funds to buy gold.

“Through this PFS XGLD product innovation, the barrier of large capital has collapsed. Anyone can now start saving gold starting from just 0.1 milligram (1 participation unit),” Noviono said in a statement on Wednesday (19/8/2026).

XGLD uses physical gold as the underlying asset with a maximum cash composition of 5 percent. The gold is linked to pure gold certified by the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) or the Indonesian National Standard (SNI). Investors also do not need to store gold physically because transactions are carried out through the capital market.

In addition, gold can be placed in a single portfolio alongside shares, bonds, and mutual funds. Transaction settlement uses a T+1 mechanism.

From a sharia perspective, XGLD uses a Wakalah bil al-Ujrah contract for fund management and Bai’ al-Muthlaq for physical gold transactions. The product refers to DSN-MUI Fatwa Number 163/DSN-MUI/VIII/2025.

President Director & CEO of PT Indo Premier Sekuritas Moleonoto The said XGLD is integrated with various instruments in IPOT so that investors can manage asset allocation without switching applications.

“Without needing to switch applications or manage separate accounts, investors can shift fund allocations seamlessly according to market conditions and risk profile,” said Moleonoto.
