Shanties destroyed in North Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): North Jakarta Mayor H. Suprawito led the
demolition of hundreds of illegally constructed shanties on Jl.
Tiram, Jl. Enim and Jl. Ende over the weekend.

The shanties built along Tirem River were considered eyesores.

"The demolition is part of the National Discipline Movement
launched nationwide on May 20," Suprawito was quoted by Antara as
saying.

He promised to continue the demolition program in other parts
of the mayoralty.

The mayor urged local residents to abide by the existing
regulations before stern action is taken against them. (hhr)
