Shallow M5.6 Earthquake Jolts Pacitan
A shallow earthquake measuring magnitude 5.6 jolted the Pacitan region of East Java and its surrounding areas on Saturday (27/6) at 14.47 WIB. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated the epicentre of this seaquake was precisely located at 8.96 South Latitude and 111.16 East Longitude. Initial BMKG data indicated the epicentre was at a depth of 10 kilometres and 86 kilometres southeast of Pacitan, East Java. BMKG confirmed this earthquake had no potential to trigger a tsunami. As of 15.14 WIB, several aftershocks were observed in the region with magnitudes ranging from M2.4 to M2.5. The aftershock epicentres had varying depths between 21 and 29 kilometres.
