Shallow 4.3 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Cianjur, Centred on Land

A magnitude 4.3 earthquake shook the Cianjur region, West Java, on Tuesday (1/9) afternoon.

The Bandung Geophysical Station, via the X account @bandung_bmkg, stated that the earthquake occurred at 17:53 WIB. The epicentre was located at a depth of 5 kilometres, situated 13 kilometres south of Cianjur.

“Info Earthquake Mag: 4.3, 01-Sep-2026 17:53:10 WIB, Loc: 6.93 S - 107.10 E, 13 km South of CIANJUR REGENCY-WEST JAVA, Depth: 5 km ::BMKG,” noted @bandung_bmkg.

The Bandung Geophysical Station clarified that this information is subject to change. “This information prioritises speed, therefore the data processing results are not yet stable and may change as more complete data becomes available,” stated @bandung_bmkg.

According to information released through BMKG channels, the earthquake was centred on land.

“The earthquake was felt (MMI): III-IV Cianjur, II-III Sukabumi City, II-III Cibadak, II-III Nagrak, II-III Warung Kondang, II Cibubur.”
