Prices of staple commodities, particularly shallots, remain stubbornly high. Red bird’s eye chilli prices also stay elevated. According to data collected at Pagi Market in Cirebon City, shallots are priced at Rp50,000 per kilogram and red bird’s eye chilli at Rp100,000 per kilogram. “Shallot and red bird’s eye chilli prices have not dropped as of today,” said Ida, a street vendor from Pecilon, Cirebon Regency, who sources her stock from Pagi Market on Monday (1/6).

Ida explained that both commodities have remained expensive since before Eid al-Adha and show no signs of declining. As a street vendor, she finds the high prices challenging. “I need to make a profit, after all. It’s business, and the money has to be recycled for future stock,” she said.

To ease the burden on customers, Ida now sells shallots in smaller 100-gram packs instead of the previous quarter-kilogram sizes. “A 100-gram pack costs Rp6,000 versus Rp15,000 for a quarter-kilogram. Customers usually opt for the smaller size unless they specifically request the larger pack,” she added.

Other chilli varieties have also seen price increases, including green chilli at Rp40,000 per kg, up from Rp25,000-30,000 previously. “Green bird’s eye chilli has risen too, now at Rp40,000 per kg from around Rp30,000,” Ida noted.

Other vegetables have also risen: carrots at Rp4,500 for a quarter-kilogram (previously Rp3,000), cucumbers at Rp12,000-13,000 per kg (previously Rp7,000-8,000), and tomatoes at Rp16,000 per kg (up from Rp8,000-10,000).

Ida also reduces her stock purchases, buying only four 100-gram packs of red chilli and shallots. “The priority is to sell out quickly so capital can be recycled,” she said.

According to PIHPS data as of 1 June 2026, red bird’s eye chilli prices reached Rp77,250 per kg and farm eggs at Rp30,800 per kg. The Ministry of Agriculture is strengthening collaboration with farmers and local governments to ensure supply and stabilise shallot prices ahead of Eid al-Adha.

In Kepuh Market, Kuningan Regency, red chilli prices range from Rp35,000 to Rp45,000 per kg depending on variety. PIHPS data from 29 May 2026 recorded price increases: red bird’s eye chilli at Rp83,850/kg, shallots at Rp50,700/kg, and eggs at Rp29,250/kg. Red bird’s eye chilli is now sold at Rp120,000 per kg, up from Rp70,000 previously.

In Batam’s traditional markets, red chilli ranges from Rp20,000-25,000 per kg, while bird’s eye chilli is priced between Rp25,000-35,000 per kg depending on quality and supply. Large red chilli prices stand at Rp48,750 per kg, with curly red chilli at Rp46,750 per kg.
