Shadow puppet play at House
JAKARTA: As part of the commemoration of the 58th anniversary of national independence and the House of Representatives (DPR), the House will hold a shadow puppet play on Saturday.
Deputy House speaker Soetardjo Soerjogoeritno of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) said on Thursday that the puppeteer will be Ki Sugino Siswocarito from Banyumas, Central Java.
Some comedians, including Timbul, Marwoto, Kancil, and Belong would also perform during the play of Antasena Nagih Janji (Antasena demands fulfillment of promises).
Soetardjo, chairman of the organizing committee, said that the event would be opened by House Speaker Akbar Tandjung.
In the similar event last year, Akbar's wife Krisnina Maharani sang Javanese songs.
Soetardjo, a Yogyakarta-born politician, said the public could watch the performance if they wanted to know what the shadow play was about. -- JP
