SGS wins Manila order

MANILA (AFP): The Philippines will soon sign an agreement with
the Swiss firm, Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS) for
verification of export receipts, government sources said here
Sunday.

Under the agreement, the Geneva-based SGS will verify
companies' export receipts which will be used as the basis for
obtaining special tax credits that the government is extending to
certain classes of exporters.

The sources said the agreement could be signed this week.
Since August, 1991, SGS has had a contract with the government to
check the value of goods shipped to the Philippines in order to
curb smuggling.
