SGN and Indonesian Air Force Synergise to Support Sugar Industry and Create Multiplier Effect
PT Sinergi Gula Nusantara (SGN) and the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) are joining forces to support the national sugar industry in order to create a multiplier effect for the economy and the public.
“Synergy with various parties is an important part of accelerating the improvement of sugarcane productivity while supporting the achievement of national sugar self-sufficiency,” said SGN President Director Mahmudi in a statement in Surabaya, East Java, on Thursday.
Mahmudi said strengthening the sugarcane sector is not only related to increasing sugar production but also to optimising the use of resources, improving farmers’ welfare, and strengthening the sugar industry’s contribution to national food security.
Nevertheless, he stressed that the multiplier effect of the sugar industry ecosystem requires cross-sector collaboration to strengthen the sector from upstream to downstream.
This synergy, he said, is needed in land development, productivity improvement, human resource quality enhancement, and other areas.
He also assured that SGN is ready to play its role and continue contributing to supporting the government’s agenda to achieve sugar self-sufficiency and strengthen Indonesia’s food security.
“We are optimistic that through directed and sustainable collaboration, the potential of the sugarcane sector can be further optimised,” said Mahmudi.
Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Air Force (KSAU) Air Chief Marshal TNI M Tonny Harjono is optimistic that the synergy with SGN can have a positive impact not only on increasing food production but also on strengthening national independence and public welfare.
Moreover, the Ministry of Agriculture is targeting 3.04 million to 3.044 million tonnes of crystal sugar this year to support the self-sufficiency target.
Meanwhile, last year’s target was only 97.54 percent of the target, namely 2.67 million tonnes.
“Food security is an important part of national resilience. Therefore, synergy and collaboration between institutions and with the business sector need to continue to be strengthened,” said Tonny.
