The perpetrator of a sexual harassment incident in the Karawaci area, which recently went viral on social media, has been arrested by the Karawaci Police Sector at his residence in Karawaci, Tangerang City, Banten. The suspect, identified by the initials BJ (20), was apprehended after investigators conducted a series of enquiries, including interviewing witnesses and reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity of the incident.

The Karawaci Police Chief, Commissioner Anggoro Winardi, stated on Friday (31/7) that the incident occurred on Saturday (25/7) at approximately 18:28 WIB on Jalan Nila I, Karawaci Baru, Tangerang. The case gained significant public attention after CCTV footage depicting the alleged act was uploaded to social media. Following the information, the Karawaci Police investigation team visited the scene, interviewed the victim and witnesses, and subsequently launched a manhunt for the suspect.

Upon being detained, the perpetrator admitted to slapping the victim’s buttocks. During the arrest, officers seized several pieces of evidence, including a motorcycle and the clothing worn by the suspect during the incident.

Acting Tangerang City Metro Police Chief, Commissioner Eko Bagus Riyadi, emphasised that the police will not tolerate any form of violence or sexual harassment against women and vulnerable groups. “Every report regarding criminal acts of violence or sexual harassment will be followed up quickly, professionally, and in accordance with applicable legal provisions. The safety and protection of the victim are our priorities,” he stated.

Eko also urged the public not to hesitate to report incidents if they become victims or witness such crimes. “We invite the community to be brave in reporting. Do not be afraid, as every report will be handled seriously. The role of the community is vital in helping the police create a safe environment free from all forms of sexual violence,” he added.

The suspect is currently being held at the Karawaci Police Sector undergoing further investigation. The police are also providing assistance to the victim in accordance with the legal mechanisms for handling sexual violence crimes and are continuing to gather evidence for the subsequent legal process.
