KAI Commuter Indonesia (KCI) has taken action against a man accused of sexual harassment on the commuter rail (KRL) system. The man was identified using advanced cameras at stations.

The alleged sexual harassment incident occurred on a KRL train on the Jakarta Kota-Bogor route. A video of the victim reporting the incident to station staff went viral on social media.

Following the complaint, KCI immediately acted on the report from the KRL user regarding the alleged harassment. Information about the suspect’s physical characteristics was entered into the CCTV system.

Perpetrator Detected and Apprehended

On Friday, 27 February, the security system issued a notification when the perpetrator was detected entering the station area. Staff immediately followed up on the alert.

The perpetrator was apprehended and staff conducted an immediate inspection.

“Related staff directly coordinated in the field to quickly apprehend the perpetrator and bring him to Bojonggede Station for preliminary examination,” said KAI Commuter Public Relations Manager Leza Arlan on Saturday, 28 February 2026.

The sexual harassment incident occurred on 22 January.

Perpetrator Handed Blacklist Sanction

As a consequence of his actions, the perpetrator was sanctioned with a ban from using KRL services. The perpetrator’s image has been entered into the CCTV system, which will automatically notify staff if he attempts to enter any station.

“Afterwards, we conducted confirmation with the victim to verify the suspect’s identity, so that he could subsequently be added to the blacklist,” said Leza.

The blacklist sanction has been imposed on several sexual harassment perpetrators on the KRL in the past.

KCI also brought the victim in during the perpetrator’s examination. Following this, KCI staff accompanied the victim to file a report with the police.

“KAI Commuter remains committed to always providing excellent service and a sense of security to all users and remains on the side of the victim. KAI Commuter also expresses its deep concern and sincerest apologies to the victim for the discomfort experienced,” he stated.

KCI is also providing psychological support to the victim. KCI is urging all users to demonstrate shared care and concern.

“KAI Commuter calls on all users to be mindful of their surroundings when using the commuter line, to be brave in taking action and speaking up or reporting any form of sexual harassment to staff through the call centre 021-121 or KAI Commuter’s official social media,” he added.

Passenger Reports Harassment in Viral Video

Previously, a video circulated of a woman who claimed to be a victim of sexual harassment inside a KRL carriage on the Jakarta Kota-Bogor route. The woman reported the incident to staff at Cilebut Station.

In the video, the woman described starting her journey from Manggarai Station. During the journey, she began to feel physical contact.

However, the woman initially did not pay much attention because she thought the contact came from another passenger’s bag. This continued until one man, suspected to be the perpetrator, spoke to her.

According to the woman’s account, the man casually asked her if she was angry when he rubbed his genitals against her during the journey.

The woman stated that other passengers did not help and merely looked in her direction. Eventually, she decided to get off at Cilebut Station and reported the incident to staff.
