Sexual Harassment Chat Circulates. FHUI Dean's Response

Sixteen students from the Faculty of Law at Universitas Indonesia are suspected of sexually harassing several female students. This issue came to light after the account @sampahfhui shared screenshots of conversations in a group chat containing verbal sexual harassment and objectification of women.

“It hurts so much to see a group chat of FH UI students whose daily content involves harassing and objectifying women. Even worse, many members are high-ranking faculty organisation officials, class presidents, and even someone running for head of the faculty orientation committee,” the @sampahfhui account stated on X.

In response, the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Universitas Indonesia (UI), Parulian Paidi Aritonang, strongly condemned all forms of behaviour that degrade human dignity and contradict legal, ethical, and academic values. According to him, the faculty is currently conducting a comprehensive investigation into the case.

“Currently, the Faculty is carrying out a serious, careful, and thorough tracing and verification. This process is conducted while upholding the principles of prudence and justice,” Parulian said in a written statement, quoted on Tuesday (14/4/2026).

If violations are proven, including those potentially breaching criminal law, he stated that firm action will be taken in accordance with applicable regulations. In addition, the Faculty of Law UI will coordinate with the relevant authorities.
