"Sewunara" Brings Together Creative Ideas Across Nations
Semarang (ANTARA) - The “Semarang International Art & Design Festival” (Sewunara), organised by Binus Semarang, brings together academics, industry leaders, government officials, professional organisations, professional designers, artists, creators, and students from various countries to exchange creative ideas.
Speaking at the opening of Sewunara at Binus Semarang on Saturday, the Mayor of Semarang, Agustina Wilujeng Pramestuti, stated that the gathering serves as a platform to discuss urban development, creativity, and the future potential of creative works.
Under the theme “Future City,” Sewunara is running from 26 September to 10 October 2026, integrated with the “Semarang IP Summit 2026,” organised by the Semarang City Industry Office.
She noted that Sewunara represents an initial step towards revitalising the creative industry in Semarang. Regarding the IP Summit, she added that it will be developed through collaboration across various regional government agencies, driven by the desire to capture the creative potential of the youth through various creative economy agendas.
“The IP Summit is being unified by the Industry Office. Later, colleagues from the Archives and Communication and Information Office (Kominfo) will step in to create various events that capture the creative economy of young people,” she said.
Agustuna expressed her appreciation to Binus Semarang for providing a space where creative players can meet with the government and industry.
The Head of the Semarang City Industry Office, Arwita Mawarti, stated that the IP Summit serves as a new platform to develop the potential of the younger generation who possess creative ideas.
“The IP Summit will serve as a forum, and we from the Industry Office, in supporting the Mayor’s ‘Waras Ekonominya’ (Healthy Economy) programme, will continue to organise activities that help develop SMEs,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Campus Director of Binus Semarang, Dr Fredy Purnomo, remarked that urban development requires involvement from various fields, especially as technology becomes increasingly integrated into people’s lives.
“When we talk about the future city, we are not just talking about technology or infrastructure. We also need to consider how humans will live, interact, create, and build communities within it,” he said.
According to him, Sewunara provides an opportunity to bring various parties together to view the future of the city from diverse perspectives.
Through the Sewunara x Semarang IP Summit, students gain the opportunity to interact directly with practitioners, professionals, academics, creators, and participants from various countries. This allows them to understand how creativity, design, technology, and intellectual property are interconnected in the development of future industries.
Throughout its duration, the Sewunara x Semarang IP Summit will feature a variety of activities, including twin classes, workshops, art and design exhibitions, an IP Expo & Exhibition, and business conferences.
