Severe Traffic Jam "Sawangan Kubro", Depok City Government Accelerates Road Widening

Depok Mayor Supian Suri stated that the term “Sawangan Kubro”, which has recently gone viral on social media, stems from the actual traffic congestion conditions at the exit of the Depok-Antasari Toll Road (Desari) leading to Sawangan Main Road. To address this issue, the Depok City Government (Pemkot) will accelerate the widening of Enggram Road and Pemuda Road on Muchtar Main Road. These two stretches are being prepared as alternative routes to ease the density at the Tugu Batu junction, which has long been one of the sources of congestion. Supian emphasised that addressing congestion in the Sawangan area has actually been part of the Pemkot’s plans since last year. However, in 2026, these projects will be accelerated and prioritised. The widening of Enggram Road is planned to have a width of around 10 metres with a length of approximately 800 metres. Pemkot Depok has allocated a budget of around Rp 40 billion for physical construction, including the two road stretches. In addition, a budget of up to Rp 100 billion has been prepared for land acquisition. Besides these two roads, Pemkot also targets interventions at several congestion hotspots, particularly at the Parung Bingung junction, which has long been the main bottleneck for vehicle flow from the toll direction. Two other priority points are the Jalan Keadilan junction and the Tugu Batu Sawangan junction. “Going forward, Sawangan will receive serious attention. We want to ensure that development is truly felt by the residents,” said Supian on Friday (24/4/2026), quoted from Tribunnews. For context, the mentions of “Sawangan Kubro” and “Sawangan Sugro” that are buzzing on social media refer to the directions exiting the Depok-Antasari Toll Road via the Sawangan Toll Gate. If vehicles exit the toll and turn right towards Parung Bingung, that route is known as “Sawangan Kubro” because it is often plagued by severe congestion. Meanwhile, if turning left towards DTC or Mampang, that route is called “Sawangan Sugro” because it is relatively smoother. Ahmad Fikri (35), a Sawangan resident, said that traffic conditions are only relatively smooth in the middle of the night.
