Severe Traffic Congestion on Jalan Yos Sudarso towards Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta Amid Export-Import Activities

Jakarta, Kompas.com - Traffic on Jalan Yos Sudarso towards Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta experienced severe congestion from afternoon until evening on Monday (25 May 2026). According to Kompas.com’s observations at 19:48 WIB, vehicles were still queuing along Jalan Yos Sudarso as far as Sunter and around Mall of Indonesia in Kelapa Gading. The queue was dominated by container trucks and box trucks. Cars were moving at speeds below 10 kilometres per hour, while motorcycles could navigate through gaps in the traffic at around 15 kilometres per hour. Kompol Ridha Adhitya, Head of the North Jakarta Traffic Police Unit, explained that the congestion was due to increased vehicle volume heading to Tanjung Priok Port. ‘The volume of traffic for export-import activities was quite heavy today,’ he told Kompas.com on Monday. He added that authorities were still working to ease the congestion. ‘North Jakarta Traffic Police personnel are still attempting to clear the jam. However, the high volume of export-import traffic persists. Traffic flow remains ongoing,’ he said. Similarly, Rudy Saptari, Head of North Jakarta Regional Transport Agency (Sudinhub Jakut), stated that the congestion was caused by container depot loading and unloading activities.
