Severe Traffic Congestion on Jalan Yos Sudarso as Vehicles Queue from Tanjung Priok to Sunter
Jakarta, Indonesia – Traffic on Jalan Yos Sudarso in North Jakarta came to a standstill on Friday, 13 March 2026, causing severe congestion.
Observations by Kompas.com at the location at 17:00 Western Indonesian Time revealed bumper-to-bumper traffic stretching from Tanjung Priok Port to Sunter. Trailers, container trucks, and cars remained stationary, moving only 30 metres every five minutes.
Several motorcycle riders resorted to riding on pavements to circumvent the traffic jam.
Congestion also affected the Wiyoto-Wiyono Toll Road, with queues visible from the Kebon Bawang toll exit through to Plumpang within the toll facility.
Rian, a 42-year-old motorcycle rider, reported that he was forced to ride on the pavement due to the severe congestion. “Earlier, from the city mayor’s office to the front junction of the police station here took 20 minutes. I had to ride on the pavement too, whereas normally it wouldn’t take more than five minutes,” he said.
According to him, the congestion on Jalan Yos Sudarso was caused by increased activity of container vehicles heading to Tanjung Priok Port. “They’re racing against the deadline because H-3 Lebaran, commercial activities won’t be allowed. They’re essentially trying to meet their targets,” he explained.
“I’m delayed getting home because of this. Nothing has moved all this time,” he added.
