Severe traffic congestion in Tanjung Priok caused by container depot operations in Cakung
The Port Authority’s Harbour Master’s Office (KSOP) Tanjung Priok stated that the prolonged traffic congestion on Yos Sudarso Road leading to Tanjung Priok Port and extending to Cilincing was caused by container depot activities in the Cakung area of East Jakarta.
“Indeed, the traffic jams are due to these depots,” said Captain Heru, Head of KSOP Tanjung Priok, in Jakarta on Monday.
He emphasised that the severe congestion was not caused by loading and unloading operations within the Tanjung Priok Port area.
Furthermore, the congestion was not due to the number of berthing vessels causing long queues outside the port area.
“The traffic jam is caused by container depot activities in the Cakung area of East Jakarta,” Heru said.
The depots are directly connected to the Tanjung Priok Port access via Cilincing Main Road up to the Cakung Cilincing area.
“Loading and unloading operations and vessel berthing today are normal,” he added.
Previously, Tanjung Priok Port Police Traffic Unit Chief AKP Ginanjar Tejasasmita confirmed that the prolonged traffic congestion in the Tanjung Priok area on Monday afternoon was not due to port operations.
“The congestion did not originate from Tanjung Priok Port,” said AKP Ginanjar Tejasasmita.
He explained that severe traffic jams had already occurred on Cilincing Main Road, affecting vehicles exiting the port via Checkpoint 9.
Meanwhile, Sudinhub Head Rudi Saptari stated that the prolonged traffic congestion since Monday afternoon, lasting until evening, was caused by container depot activities.
“This congestion is due to container depot operations at BSA, Temas, and Seacon,” he said.
To address the congestion, Sudinhub officers have been deployed to manage traffic at several points including Jampea Road, Yos Sudarso Road, Permai Traffic Light, Checkpoint 9, Kramat Traffic Light, and Kebon Baru Traffic Light.
