Severe congestion in Cakung-Cilincing caused by loading and unloading activities at depots

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Traffic Unit (Satlantas) of the East Jakarta Metro Police has revealed that severe congestion along Jalan Raya Bekasi to Jalan Raya Cakung-Cilincing has been triggered by lorry loading and unloading activities at several depots.

“That’s right, the cause of the long traffic jam is trucks loading and unloading at several depots in Cakung,” said the Head of the East Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit, Police Commissioner Harnas Prihandito, when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The large number of trucks entering and leaving the depot areas has reduced road capacity, slowing the flow of vehicles, particularly during peak hours.

Harnas said the slowdown in traffic along Jalan Raya Bekasi and Jalan Raya Cakung-Cilincing occurred because these routes are the main corridors for private vehicles, public transport and logistics vehicles.

He said his team had been monitoring traffic density in the area since the morning.

A number of Traffic Unit personnel have also been deployed to the location to help direct the flow of vehicles.

“Our officers have been on the ground since the morning to help untangle the trucks carrying out loading and unloading,” he said.

In addition, Harnas said his team continues to monitor the development of the traffic situation at the location and is coordinating with the relevant parties.

Earlier, one lorry driver, Suprapto, said he had arrived at the Cakung Toll Gate in East Jakarta from midnight (00.00 WIB). However, traffic did not move and the queue of vehicles kept stretching.

“Up until now there has been no movement; there are more and more vehicles at the depot (warehouse) service, so vehicles are queuing,” said Suprapto.

According to him, the slow pace of the loading and unloading officers has caused the queue to stretch further into East Jakarta.

“It should be managed so it doesn’t come to a standstill; it is already jammed at the entrance (of the warehouse) and has come to a standstill,” Suprapto said.

He expressed hope that the warehouse operators would better manage the loading and unloading process.
