Severe congestion in Cakung-Cilincing caused by loading and unloading activities at depots
The Traffic Unit of the East Jakarta Metro Police has stated that the severe congestion occurring on the Jalan Raya Bekasi to Jalan Raya Cakung-Cilincing stretch was triggered by truck loading and unloading activities at several depots. ‘That is correct, the cause of the long traffic jam is trucks loading and unloading at several depots in Cakung,’ said East Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit Head Kompol Harnas Prihandito on Tuesday. The large number of trucks entering and exiting the depot area has reduced road capacity, causing traffic flow to stall, especially during peak hours. Harnas said the slowdown in traffic on both Jalan Raya Bekasi and Jalan Raya Cakung-Cilincing occurred because the route is a main artery for private vehicles, public transport, and logistics vehicles. He mentioned that his unit had been monitoring the traffic density in the area since the morning. A number of Traffic Unit personnel were also deployed to the location to help manage the flow of vehicles. ‘Our officers have been on the ground since morning to help disentangle these loading and unloading trucks,’ he said. Furthermore, Harnas stated that his party continues to monitor the traffic situation at the location and coordinate with related parties. Previously, a truck driver named Suprapto claimed he had arrived at the Cakung Toll Gate in East Jakarta since 00.00 WIB. However, traffic was at a standstill and the queue of vehicles continued to snake along. ‘Until now there has been no movement, the service at this depot (warehouse) is getting slower, so the cars are queuing,’ said Suprapto. According to him, the slow work of loading and unloading officers caused the queue to extend further into the East Jakarta area. ‘To prevent congestion, it should be managed so it does not come to a halt. It is already jammed at the warehouse entrance, completely stuck,’ Suprapto said. He expressed hope that the warehouse management would properly organise the loading and unloading process.
