Gyirong (ANTARA) - The identities of several victims of the landslide that struck Gyirong Port in the Xizang Autonomous Region, south-west China, on 26 August have been confirmed, the emergency rescue command centre for the landslide disaster announced on Monday (7/9).

According to the latest data, 43 people have been confirmed dead and a further 519 remain listed as missing as of 18.00 local time on Saturday (5/9). Some 261 foreign nationals from 23 countries are included on the list of missing victims.

A team of experts has been formed to identify the victims. More than 60 forensic specialists have been deployed to the site, with three specialised laboratories equipped with advanced instruments now in operation.

The identification work is being carried out strictly in accordance with relevant Chinese laws and regulations and in full reference to international practice, while upholding the dignity of the deceased and respecting related customs, the command centre said.
