Several Students Undergoing Hospitalisation Following Mass Food Poisoning Incident
As of Thursday morning, seven students remain hospitalised across three healthcare facilities: five at RSI Siti Hajar, one at RS Arafah Anwar, and one at RS Rahman Rahim. Medical personnel continue to monitor the inpatients until their conditions stabilise.
Previously, the number of students rushed to hospitals reached 117. Many had undergone treatment but subsequently experienced a recurrence of symptoms, including nausea, weakness, and vomiting. The majority of victims have now been discharged following emergency treatment, leaving only seven individuals requiring inpatient care.
Currently, no patients remain under observation in the Emergency Department (UGD). Those who experienced recurring symptoms were initially taken to RSUD RT Notopuro, where all 34 patients have been discharged. At RSI Siti Hajar, 44 patients were treated, five of whom are still hospitalised. Additionally, 13 patients have been discharged from RS Pusura Candi, and 7 from RS DKT. At RS Arafah Anwar, one of the 14 patients remains hospitalised, and at RS Rahman Rahim, one of the five patients is still undergoing inpatient care.
Sudaryono, Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), addressed the case involving hundreds of students poisoned after consuming Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) food in Sidoarjo, East Java. The Pati Regency authorities have declared the suspected mass poisoning of hundreds of students and teachers following the consumption of the MBG menu as an Outbreak (KLB).
The number of students and teachers suspected of being poisoned after consuming the Free Nutritised Meal (MBG) at SMP Negeri 1 Gembong and MTs Negeri 3 Pati continues to rise. Food samples served at the schools tested positive for three types of bacteria: Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, and Escherichia coli (E. coli).
Sudaryono admitted that negligence by officials at the Sidoarjo Nutrition Service Unit (SPPG) caused 512 students to suffer food poisoning from the Free Nutritious Meal programme. Meanwhile, the Regent of Sidoarjo, Subandi, noted that 31 Nutrition Service Units (SPPG) in his region are currently operating without permits.
A joint team from the East Java Regional Police, Sidoarjo City Police, and local sub-district police assisted in the evacuation and medical handling of hundreds of students from the Manba’ul Hikam Islamic Boarding School in Sidoarjo. The East Java Provincial Government and the Sidoarjo Health Office have moved swiftly to prioritise medical treatment for the 448 residents and students affected by the suspected mass poisoning.
Regent Subandi has denied rumours that students from the Manba’ul Hikam boarding school died due to the poisoning, reporting that the students’ conditions are improving following medical intervention.
