Several areas in Jakarta experienced power outages due to disruptions in supply from substations. The lift at Lebak Bulus MRT Station was affected, trapping several people inside. “People were trapped in the lift due to a power outage in several areas of Jakarta. Alhamdulillah, they were successfully evacuated by the fire department officers,” said a resident at the scene, Ijoel, when confirmed by detikcom on Thursday (9/4/2026). Ijoel, who was at Lebak Bulus MRT Station and witnessed the incident, reported it to officers from the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat). According to the South Jakarta Fire Department report, the report was received by officers at 18:16 WIB. One rescue team from the South Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-District Office and the East Pejaten Task Force was deployed to the location. The officers brought equipment to evacuate the residents trapped in the lift. “Evacuation of people trapped inside the lift,” said the Head of South Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-District Office, Asril Rizal. The evacuation process was carried out from 18:20 WIB and completed at 18:40 WIB. Around 10 people were trapped in the lift and could be evacuated. “At 17:58 WIB, the station’s electricity went out, security officers tried to provide assistance to help get the trapped passengers out of the downtrack side lift,” he said. However, because of the power outage, the initial evacuation efforts were unsuccessful. The lift door was eventually forced open. “Finally, the fire department team requested approval from the Station Manager and the RBM Team to forcibly open the lift door. After it was forced open, the passengers could finally be rescued and removed from the lift without any injuries,” he stated. MRT Jakarta Operations Temporarily Affected The operations of MRT Jakarta were temporarily affected due to the power outage in several areas of Jakarta. Several MRT Jakarta stations were impacted that afternoon. “PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) states that there was an operational disruption at several stations on Thursday, 9 April 2026, at 17:57 WIB,” said the Head of the Corporate Secretary Division of PT MRT Jakarta, Rendy Primartantyo, when contacted on Thursday (9/4). Rendy said the power supply from PLN was temporarily constrained. He mentioned that facilities at MRT Jakarta stations experienced disruptions, but they have now returned to normal. “This operational disruption was caused by a power supply constraint from the PLN side (CSW), resulting in some station facilities, such as lighting, elevators, escalators, and other facilities, experiencing disruptions. All elevated stations experienced blackout conditions, but they have now been successfully normalised,” he said. PLN Jakarta Raya Main Distribution Unit (UID Jaya/Disjaya) is carrying out gradual power normalisation. Senior Manager of Communication and Public Relations of PLN UID Jakarta Raya, Haris Andika, revealed there was a power supply disruption originating from several substations. “There was a power supply disruption in several areas of Jakarta originating from several Substations (GI). Currently, the areas still affected by the outage are Angke and surroundings. PLN is carrying out gradual normalisation efforts,” said Haris in his statement on Thursday (9/4). Haris explained that the public can report complaints if they experience electricity issues. He stated that complaints and reports can be submitted through the 123 service and the PLN Mobile application. There is no information yet on how long the outage will last. However, he said normalisation has reached 50%.
