Probolinggo, East Java (ANTARA) - Several public officials have been appointed as honorary citizens of the Tengger community during the sacred and solemn Yadnya Kasada 2026 ceremony held at the Ngadisari Village Agung Hall in Probolinggo Regency, East Java, on Sunday evening (31 May).

The honoured officials include Lieutenant Colonel Ribut Yudo Apriyantono, Commander of Kodim 0820/Probolinggo, and his wife Mrs Peppy; Lieutenant Colonel Faishal Riza, Commander of Infantry Battalion 836/Brahma Yodha, and his wife Mrs Ana; AKBP M. Wahyudin Latif, Probolinggo Regency Police Chief, and his wife Mrs Ika; AKBP Rico Yumasri, Probolinggo City Police Chief; Public Prosecutor Mohammad Anggidigdo; TP PKK Chair Ning Marisa Juwitasari Moh. Haris; and Deputy Chair Ning Umi Hani’ah Fahmi AHZ.

Probolinggo Regency Police Chief M. Wahyudin Latif stated, “I express deep gratitude and respect for the trust of the Tengger community. The status of honorary citizen carries significant moral responsibility.” He added that this is not merely a ritual but an implementation of faith, gratitude to God, and harmony with nature. After being honoured, they become an inseparable part of the Tengger community.

“Moving forward, we will realise this commitment through concrete actions to jointly safeguard the Bromo area, ensuring it remains safe, conducive, and cherished both nationally and internationally,” he said.

Following their appointment as honorary citizens of the Tengger community, they now bear greater responsibility to protect, preserve, and support the Tengger people to ensure their ancestral customs and culture endure.

He also urged all societal elements to collaborate in preserving Tengger culture and the Bromo Tengger Semeru area.

“We extend our deepest thanks for the trust bestowed. Let us work together to protect the Tengger community’s traditions and the Bromo Tengger Semeru area as a shared cultural heritage and source of national pride,” he added.

Meanwhile, Probolinggo Regent Mohammad Haris said Yadnya Kasada is a sacred tradition passed down through generations that must be preserved as part of the nation’s cultural wealth.

“Upholding tolerance and religious harmony is crucial, especially as this year’s Yadnya Kasada coincides with Eid al-Adha and Vesak Day,” he stated.
